McCown CMA Meeting
Last week DM Mike McCown hosted his annual CMA meeting. Mike always does a wonderful job of showing how much our CMA's mean to us and the continuing growth of our company. It's never an easy job being in charge of an area where 60% of our business comes from. The topics that were covered were accuracy systems, customer service and LSM partnership.
Training Department Retreat
The Training Department had a 3-day meeting in Dallas last week, at the Montserrat Jesuit Retreat House on beautiful Lake Dallas/Lewisville. It was a very productive meeting, punctuated by a lot of fun! We had a great kickball game for our morning fitness event, that brought out the best and the worst in us :) but at the end we all came together for a friendly group photo. We also spent a couple of hours helping sort donated groceries for the Christian Community Action in Lewisville, an organization that ministers to the poor in the area.
Chicago BAM
Chicago recently had their first BAM meeting. Hillary Kipker and Max Janis gave a Food Cost workshop presentation and they followed up the meeting with a game of Chicago Softball. DM Aaron Watson explains the history of 16 inch softball below and also sent in some great captions for the pictures.
History of 16 inch softball:
The game of softball started in Chicago on Thanksgiving 1887 at the Farragut Boat Club when Yale and Harvard Alumni wrapped up a boxing glove and started to hit the "Ball" with a broomstick. Those men formalized the indoor game, and eventually the game was played outdoors. In Chicago, the parks and school grounds are small, so the ball had to be larger to stay in the Park.... (They did not have Adam Matousek playing back then. 200 ft out of the park HOME RUN!!!!) ...... Thus the 16" diameter became the size of choice and game of choice during the Depression since only a bat and a ball were needed. No-glove softball (We have the bruises to show it) has also been famous only in Chicago since the 1920's.

Chefco Tour
Last week a group of Jason's Deli managers and corporate staff went on a tour of the Chefco facility in Saginaw, Texas. It was a very interesting and fun tour getting to see all the steps they go through to make our soups. We all got to wear hard hats, smocks and shoe covers for the tour. LSM Michelle Munoz pictured below enjoyed our outfits the most as you can see.
Mother's Day
Many of our stores celebrated Mother's Day for their employees. SAR sent this picture of their party which included homemade gumbo compliments of Nicky Pete (1A). I'm still upset she didn't save some for me.
